Moving Tips

Well hello hello, it has been quite a while since I've typed something up for the ol' blog.  As soon as the holiday season ended,  I went straight into apartment hunting mode, which - as I'm sure you know - is all consuming.

Quick holiday break recap:

Christmas with Webb's family in San Francisco!  We enjoyed The Nutcracker, volunteering, delish meals, and a fun time with his entire immediate family.

Michelle and David's Wedding! I reunited with some of my best college friends and had a blast as a bridesmaid!  Great wedding weekend, and I discovered a new city - Denver!
Snowboarding in Tahoe!  Went to Tahoe for the first time with Webb and our friend Adrian and actually attempted to snowboard. Happy 2013!

Phew!  Wish I had time to go into greater detail, but please, it's almost February.

Inspire Thursday #3

I'm more of a scaredy cat than others.  Sure I've moved cross country without a job, stayed in a few salty Euro hostels, and done my thing on a stage.  These things do not (really) scare me.  But put me in a sitch where the only thing between me and pain is coordination, and I'm out of my mind running in the other direction.  Even ropes courses have reduced me to tears.  This is why I have avoided icy sports since I hung up my skis in early high school.  Can you blame a girl who once sped out of control backwards down the slope?

But at the age of almost-25, I have faced my fear and attempted snowboarding.  And I have to say, I didn't do so badly!  Okay yes there were a couple tears and yes a few bumps on the rump, but I exceeded my own expectation and glided down the hill.  I was planning of just getting through the lesson and calling it a day, but after lunch I went back to the slopes and did a couple runs.  I'm proud of myself.  Facing a fear and conquering it, even if it is a baby step, feels pretty darn good.  Usually, we fear failing.  We'd like to try it, but if we fail, what if?  Are the stakes really that high?  What if you do well?  What if you discover something you love?  Personally, I can't wait to get back to that almost-flying feeling of going down the hill, and the cozy camaraderie of the lodge.

Like the former First Lady says, do one thing every day that scares you.  You never know until you try.
